Our Expeditions
Your contributions will continue our global travel to places we’ve been and places we hope to go.
AFRICA
On their second excursion to the Motherland, scholars will explore the African culture where humanity began.
HAITI
Venturing to the Dominican Republic, our scholars will see some of the initial stops along the slave trade and spend their days in school alongside Haitian pen pals.
BEIJING, CHINA
Mandarin is a vital part of the global curriculum studied at GLA. China marks the tenth frontier for our scholars. Applying their learned skills, scholars will step out of the classroom and into an immersive experience by way of culture and language.
THE AMERICAN SOUTH (ATLANTA, BIRMINGHAM, MEMPHIS)
Our sixth graders learn about human, civil, and gender rights culminating in a pilgrimage to the American South. During this invaluable trip scholars visit hallowed ground including the Lorraine Hotel, 16th Street Baptist, Edmund Pettus Bridge, and the Martin Luther King Junior National Historic Site. In addition scholars are given their first taste of college life through tours at the University of Memphis, Spelman College, Clark Atlanta University and Morehouse College.
WASHINGTON, DC
By the dawn’s early light, fifth grade scholars travel to the Nation’s capital to further their understanding of the American political system. By doing so, scholars gain a greater pride in their own country while also gaining a worldly perspective on global politics and communities.
